Jay Pharoah Is Replacing Fred Armisen As President Obama On 'Saturday Night Live'

With Saturday Night Live returning for a new season, starting with this weekend’s episode, emphasis is being placed on the show’s contributions to weekly political commentary, especially with another presidential election in full swing.

The questions on everyone’s minds are: who will play Mitt Romney, and who will play Barack Obama.

Well, Jason Sudeikis is your Romney. But, even though he’s been playing Obama since 2008, according to New York Times piece on the late night show, Fred Armisen will be vacating that spot this coming season, and will be replaced by… Jay Pharoah, who joined the cast in 2010.

Said exec producer Lorne Michaels, “Jay has been doing Obama in his act this summer, and Jay is coming into his own… I just thought it might be time to shake it up.

And I’m sure for many, it’s about damn time.

Congrats on the upgrade Jay! Something tells me you’re going to have a busy fall, and maybe even further out.

Watch Mr Pharoah’s Obama impersonation below, which comes around the 7-minute mark (are you convinced?):

Happy/glad for this brotha–he and Kenan are doing the damn thang… Love it/love them…

The funny thing is, the people that complained about the casting of Armisen as President Obama probably no longer watch SNL. I feel as if Pharoah has President Obama's mannerisms down more so than his voice. He nailed Eddie and Denzel, though.

He isn't killing it like his other impressions but with a little more work I think he'll have. I was actually a little nervous at first even in spite of his other great impressions. I'm stoked for him and SNL.

Excuse my, but about fucking time! Pharoah has Obama down to a "T" except for skin tone, but Arminsen failed to latch onto any traits of Obama to comedically exploit. Pharoah is closer to the mark.

He sounds like Obama, but makes Denzel faces. I'm not worried; Jay's great for impressions, it's only when he has to do something else that he runs into trouble. He needs to work on his non-celebrity sketches.
