Here’s a fun fact: Peter Jackson had an ever so brief cameo in Edgar Wright‘s “Hot Fuzz” (so did Cate Blanchett, for the record). You know who else did? His future Bilbo Baggins, and now that actor will be taking in a role in “The World’s End.” So, small world right?
Anyway, with cameras now rolling on the final chapter in the Cornetto Trilogy, Martin Freeman and professional acting curmudgeon Eddie Marsan (rare picture of him smiling above) have come onboard. The pair join Nick Frost and Simon Pegg (of course) along with Rosamund Pike in the tale of a pub crawl that takes on apocalyptic dimensions. Here’s the official synopsis:
20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.
Of course, you already know we’re looking forward to this, and we’re sure that Wright/Pegg/Frost have even more surprises in store with their film. And it’s needless to stay that both Freeman and Marsan are fine additions to the cast. And as an extra note, Wright’s regular behind-the-camera team is joining him again, but most notably DoP Bill Pope is back as well. He really did wonders with “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World,” and with “The Matrix” trilogy and two of Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man films on Pope’s impressive CV, dude knows how to do spectacle. And we’re eager to see what kind of visuals Wright and Pope tag team on here.
No release date yet, but a 2013 debut is expected.
