It looks like it's full steam ahead on the next feature film from Terry Gilliam, and so far it's looking quite promising. The director has already lined up Christoph Waltz in the lead role of the sci-fi flick "The Zero Theorem," which apparently mostly takes place in a chapel, centers around four main characters, and possibly includes nudity of some kind. And while word has mostly been quiet since the film was announced back in August, it looks like the cast is beginning to take shape.
Chatting with Le Petit Journal, "Babylon A.D." and "The Princess Of Montpensier" actress Mélanie Thierry revealed her participation in Gilliam's picture and tossed one more intriguing name into the mix. "I'll have two big films," she said about her upcoming projects. "The new film by Denys Arcand, who I love. A film on four seasons, shot in real time. And I just signed for the new Terry Gilliam! It should be called 'Zero Theorem,' with Christoph Waltz and Tilda Swinton. I have a great part, a girl completely crazy and funny. It will be great fun to play this chick. I started the coaching and the shoot begins in November. I went back to the English lessons, because my English must be perfect, though Gilliam says he likes my "frenchness"! It will be a wonderful experience."
There's no exact word on who Thierry will play, we're guessing it's Bainsley the "lusty love interest" who distracts the cloistered monk Leth (Waltz) from his work at solving the theorem that will find the meaning of human existence. We'd take a guess that Swinton works for Management who are trying to keep Leth from cracking the code. Either way, Swinton in anything means we'll watch it.
And as for the Arcand picture Thierry mentions, that is completely new and exciting news to us. We had just been asking what happened to the Quebec filmmaker earlier this year. It has been five years since his Cannes-closing "Days Of Darkness," but it seems as if he's cooking up something very special for his return, so hopefully there will be more details on that one soon.
