Salim and Mara Brock Akil Will Tackle 'Abandonment Issues' With Paramount Pictures

And the beat doesn’t stop for the husband/wife team Salim and Mara Brock Akil, who have made a deal with Paramount Pictures to write (Mara) and direct (Salim) a new project titled Abandonment Issues.

Details on what content of Abandonment Issues aren’t public yet, but from the title alone, one can make some inferences.

Their last project together, the Sparkle remake for Tristar, is still in theaters, with a current gross over over $23 million.

In the immediate future, under their multi-year deal with BET Networks, the couple will premiere the original movie Being Mary Jane at the Urbanworld Film Festival (its opening night film), which stars Gabrielle Union.

Of course, they also have the top-rated comedy series The Game, also at BET.

When we learn more about Abandonment Issues, so will you.

I'm excited for them. I think they are a talented couple. I hope they continue to grow creatively. However, I think Salim should stick to TV directing. His movies Jumping the Broom and Sparkle both have that Lifetime special effect to them. I can't see myself paying to going to the theater to see another one of his motion pictures. Best wishes to them.
