Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, Lauren London, Tia Mowry, Djimon Hounsou For 'Baggage Claim'

Shadow and Act has learned that Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, Trey Songz, Lauren London, Tia Mowry and Djimon Hounsou are all in contention for parts playwright/director David E. Talbert's rom-com, Baggage Claim, for Fox Searchlight, based on his best-selling debut novel about a flight attendant with thirty days and thirty thousand miles to find a husband.

The film already boasts Paula PattonDerek Luke, and Octavia Spencer as cast members, with Patton playing our husband-seeking flight attendant; we aren't privy to what roles have been assigned to other cast members (Diggs, Chestnut, Songz, London, Mowry and Hounsou, assuming they sign on to join the cast; as well as the already cast Luke and Spencer).

Maybe those who've read the novel can make some guesses.

Here's the synopsis for Baggage Claim:

Pledging to keep herself from being the oldest and the only woman in her entire family never to wed, Montana embarks on a thirty-day, thirty-thousand-mile expedition to charm a potential suitor into becoming her fiancé. Whom will she choose? Damon Diesel, a P. Diddy wannabe; Reverend Curtis P. Merewether, pastor of Greater House of Deliverance, Tabernacle of Praise, Worship, and Miracles; pompous attorney-turned-councilman Langston Jefferson Battle III; or Quinton Jamison, a multimillionaire who's twenty years her senior?

We can assume that 4 of the 5 mentioned actors (Luke, as well as Diggs, Chestnut, Songz and Hounsou, if cast) could play any one of those 4 potential suitors as described in the synopsis, for Montana.

Call it the Think Like A Man effect; a project once thought to be dead 2 years ago, is given new life this year, after Think Like A Man shocked at the box office.

We may be seeing a revival of sorts of that late 1990s, early 2000s period in which we saw a rush of black rom-coms in circulation.

The cast should be finalized very soon, as the project is scheduled to begin principal photography in October.

you are all reaching with this dark male lead and light skin lady lead. how do you know david didnt screen test and tia lauren paula were the best actresses who auditioned ?

Phyllis Johnson

I understand where alot of you are going with this but you have to understand the entire situation regarding biracial females in Hollywood. Since the recession there have been fewer and fewer roles for any African American actor, therefore, if a role comes up they should take it. Its has nothing to do with who their parents are. I think that African Americans are so into this after I get millions I want to marry a white woman because I want to be accepted by the white race. What these Football, basketball, and high executives AA men don't know is that they will never ever accepted by the white race no matter what they do or say.

I know this is why black people will always lag behind. May be they should have learned from the success of Think Like A Man. This is an opportunity that these actors are embracing but judging from the comments, we are tearing them down and screaming in our shrill voices about everything. They should take their chance and run with it and the rest of us will just write about their success as they celebrate their achievements.

Good Cast….. Lauren… Why? She's aight but….

I love Tia Mowry. She's a food actor. Paula Patton, not so much. Lauren London, NO! Can't act. But yeah, the biracial female with the dark male to follow. Kinda played out. But that's because Hollywood can't take two dark skinned or even brown skinned couples as the norm. When it is mostly that throughout America. I hope Tia Mowry gets it. I like Taye Diggs too. I would like to see them together.

I am Happy about this Movie its good to see some Black Actors getting some Air time they should have had all along. There Good Actors that can do there Jobs / Roles . Its all so good to see a Movie with Black Actors in it that is rare these Days and it should not be so . With some Good Story Telling + Good Actors the Viewers will Always Come to see the Movie .

So glad Tia mowry is breaking into feature films. I follow David on twitter and I saw where he told Tia that he loved her work. I wonder why ppl are so against this film. Is it bc taraji is no longer the lead?

Halle Berry ditched ghetto films. Sorry, I don't blame any actor for moving away from doing the typical black film. This film is nothing to write about. This film is a downgrade for any actor who has been working for more than 3 years. You can sugarcoat it as being down, staying true to your roots, or what have you, but at end of the day, Paula took this role b/c it was a nice check. If a better mainstream role would have came her way, she would have ditched this film without any hesitation. Paula knows who pays her bills. If and when the paychecks become bigger with mainstream, she would not be working with a David E Talbert. Black actors that stay true to the "black" audience are actors that failed at crossing over. Not that they didn't try, they just failed at it.

Typical Hollywhite Crumb Snatch.

Nope, Not Me

Typical black movie casting… biracial females paired with dark skin black males. Once again proving Hollywood, black Hollywood especially, has a problem showing black women that actually look black.

Nobody wants a revival of the 90's rom-com. They were cute and fun, but so are babies and not everyone wants those either.
