Trudie Styler’s Maven Pictures Producing Atlanta-Set Hip-Hop Comedy Penned By Kenny Smith Jr

Trudie Styler's Maven Pictures Producing Atlanta-Set Hip-Hop Comedy Penned By Kenny Smith Jr

Maven Pictures (Trudie Styler and Celine Ratray) and Federal Films (David Schulhof and Monte Lipman) will produce the Kenny Smith Jr-penned Atlanta-set hip-hop comedy project Rollin’ Thunder, which centers on a former bowling champion turned ex-con, who sees a chance to get back in the game via a bowling tournament, as well as prove his innocence to the tycoon who owns Atlanta’s biggest bowling alley, and mend bridges with his estranged teenaged daughter.

By the way, Kenny Smith Jr is co-executive producer, writer, and director of the BET hit series The Game.

Also worth noting, Trudie Styler is Sting’s wife; she’s no stranger to the film biz, having acted in over a dozen films, and produced another dozen. Under her Maven Pictures banner, the Kristen Wiig comedy Imogene, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and sold to Lionsgate/Roadside, was her last producer credit.

“This film paints a unique picture of a world that hasn’t been portrayed onscreen… Between Kenny’s sharp writing and the opportunity to work on a music-driven project based in the world of hip-hop, it’s something new and exciting for us here at Maven,” said Styler and Rattray.

Smith Jr also wrote for The Jamie Fox Show, One On One, and a few other TV shows.

It’s not clear whether he’ll be directing Rollin’ Thunder as well; if he is, it’ll be his feature film directorial debut, as he’s past directing credits include 2 episodes of The Game, according to IMDBPro.
