Walter Hill Is Back in the Saddle with 'What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?' Remake (Video)

Writer-director Walter  Hill is one of the great underappreciated auteurs. He can do it all: stylish action, intelligent dialogue, epic scale and intimate relationships. So it's always good news to announce that he has a new movie, especially when he wrote it himself. Do I want to see him do yet another remake? No. But in this case I am curious to see his take on the classic star vs. star horror flick "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" made famous by Joan Crawford and Bette Davis.

"Obviously, our first task is to find the proper casting for the two defining roles,” said Hill, who adapted the original novel by Henry Farrell. The potential casting choices are tantalizing indeed. Meryl Streep vs. Glenn Close come to mind.

Lakeshore Entertainment is funding the movie with principals Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi producing with Adlrich Company's Adell Aldrich; Robert Aldrich directed the 1962 film from a script by Lucas Heller.

In "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" two aging Hollywood actresses, former child star Jane Hudson (Davis) and her wheelchair-bound 30s movie queen sister Blanche (Crawford), live and fight together in a decrepit Hollywood mansion. Inevitably, tragedy results.

Hill has directed such classics as "The Driver," "The Warriors" and "48 HRS," as well as westerns "The Long Riders," "Wild Bill" and "Geronimo," and more recently, Emmy-winning TV western "Broken Trail" and action thriller "Bullet to the Head," to be released by Warner Bros. in February, 2013.

Is there any update to this project? Been wanting to know more for 3 years now.

HBO just denied Ryan Murphy's "The Making of … Baby Jane'' starring Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon, picking "The Normal Heart'' instead. I hope HBO reconsiders!

WOW, just ran into this article and the one and only that would be the best to play Baby Jane would be Madonna ! Lady Gaga as Blanche ?

Walter Hill is the closest thing in Hollywood to Robert Aldrich since…Robert Aldrich! So this might work. Still, I'd rather he direct something original than a remake. If I had to pick an Aldrich remake I'd prefer for Hill, it would be the Frank Sinatra-Dean Martin western, FOUR FOR TEXAS (1963). Interesting movie, but not so good it couldn't be remade better. I'd love to see George Clooney in the Sinatra part and maybe Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp in the Martin role–or vice versa.

This could be fun if they do it right. I needs to be two has been actress though. Debra Winger and Kathleen Turner? How about real sisters? Rosanna Arquette and Patricia? Kim Basinger and Jennifer Tilly

This was already remade in 1991 with Lynn and Vanessa Redgrave. It didn't hold a candle up to the original. This film does not need another botched up remake. Leave well enough alone. If this is offered to Glenn Close and Meryl Streep I hope they both have the sense to turn it down.

Why not leave a great film alone???!!!
