Beyonce Knowles Drops Out Of 'A Star Is Born' Remake; Esperanza Spalding May Replace

This will likely be music to the ears of many of you, if your reactions to the news that she was to star in Clint Eastwood’s remake, are any indication.

Variety is reporting that Beyonce has dropped out of Eastwood’s A Star Is Born remake, citing a jam-packed schedule; and jazz singer Esperanza Spalding is apparently Eastwood’s next choice for the role.

Warner Bros. had no comment, with the project still searching for its male lead, in what has been a casting carousel that’s gone one for some time – Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, Christian Bale, Johnny Depp and, most recently, Bradley Cooper.

Jon Peters, Bill Gerber and Basil Iwanyk are producing the remake, with Will Fetters penning the most recent script.

Production was initially pushed back due to Beyonce’s pregnancy; it looks like it’ll continue to remain in limbo, now that she’s off the project for good – until a replacement is locked (whether Spaulding or someone else), and the male lead is solidified.

What about Alicia Keys or Elle Verner as the female lead and Joe Mangianello from True Blood as the male lead. Joe will be a good choice.

Or if Warner Bros is looking for a white actress to play the female lead. I think Kelly Clarkson or Jessica Simpson (if she can lose the weight).

This is a major coup for Esperanza. If she does take the role, this will go a long way additionally toward increasing the public's exposure to her music.

Not a fan of Bey's acting, so this works for me.
Is Michael Ealy not even in the ring for the male lead? He would bring a million times more heat than any of the boring, run-of-the mill Hollywood regulars mentioned.
If, for some reason, the role was specifically written for a white actor, then give us some eye candy like Joe Mangianello from True Blood.

I'm disappointed that Bey dropped out, but Spalding seems like a good choice and if Clint paired her with Paul Walker I would definitely rush to see this movie, ooh la la that guy is frakin "HAWT".

Need a big name to headline this film, folks! Esperanza is at least familiar as a Grammy winning artist – Audra and Vanessa may be too mature for this role…

Bad for marketing/promotion. Good for cinema. lol

Please Esperanza. Don't let them morph you.

Just Sayin'

Umm, Love Esperanza as a jazz musician, but I've never read any interviews with her saying that she aspires to act. … How about Anika Noni Rose or Audra McDonald or Vanessa L. Williams (Miss America)? ALL talented beautiful actresses who also sing! … And have fans that can put bodies in seats at the box office. … Not so sure Spaulding has that kind of clout yet, considering when she won the grammy for best new artist a few years back even her lame cohorts didn't have a clue as to who she was.

I was calling this (in my own head): Esperanza is destined to crossover from her extraordinary, if not niche, jazz career. She's a first rate performer and has the 'it' quality on camera. Just a shame that I couldn't pass along my little character-driven movie, written explicitly for her, before that other guy, er, Clint.

Is Esperanza an actor? Maybe Tessa Thompson. She sings I believe. And she's an actor. Nicole Beharie maybe? I think she sings. And she definitely acts. I can't see any of those male actors doing it except maybe Bradley Cooper. But I would not want Bradley. Maybe Fassy?

I wonder why Bey dropped out. Oh well!
