Breakdown of Women Nominees for 2012 Gotham Independent Film Awards

The nominees for the 22nd Annual Independent Filmmaker Project’s Gotham Independent Film Awards were announced today. A total of 26 Films were nominated in six categories. Actress Marion Cotillard will be honored with a career tribute.  And for the second year in a row, the IFP will present the euphoria Calvin Klein Spotlight on Women Filmmakers ‘Live the Dream Grant.’ The grant consists of a $25,000 award to help support the first feature project of a woman filmmaker. The awards ceremony will take place on November 26th in New York.

Here’s a breakdown of the women nominated in each category:

Best Feature (2 of 5):

The Loneliest Planet – Directed by Julia Loktev

Middle of Nowhere – Directed by Ava DuVernay

Best Documentary (1 of 5):

Detropia – Directed by Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady

Best Ensemble Performance (1 of 5):

Your Sister’s Sister – Emily Blunt, Rosemarie Dewitt, Mark Duplass (Directed by Lynn Shelton)

Breakthrough Director (2 of 5):

Francine – Directed by Melanie Shatzky and Brian M. Cassidy

Now, Forager – Directed by Julia Halperin and Jason Cortlund

Breakthrough Actor (3 of 5):

Emayatzy Corinealdi in Middle of Nowhere

Melanie Lynskey in Hello, I Must Be Going

Quvenzhané Wallis in Beasts of the Southern Wild

Best Film Not Playing At a Theater Near You (1 of 5):

Sun Don’t Shine– Directed by Amy Seimetz
