Craig Robinson Will Star In His Own NBC Comedy From The Creators Of 'The Office'

Funnyman/actor Craig Robinson will star in a new series sold to NBC by The Office executive producer Greg Daniels – a yet-to-be-titled sale penned by Owen Ellickson (supervising producer for The Office).

The project, according to Deadline, will follow a talented musician (played by Robinson) with rough edges, who adjusts to his new life as a music teacher in a big-city middle school, where he encounters teacher politics and the temptations of single moms.

Robinson also has a connection to The Office as a member of its cast, since the first season.

He’ll be appearing in at least 3 feature films in 2013 – The End of the World, We The Peeples, and Rapturepalooza.

The lead role in a comedy series on a major network would obviously be a good look for him. But several hurdles still have to be jumped over before it actually becomes a series; scripts have to be written, a pilot has to be shot; the NBC has to love the pilot before orderin a season, etc…

Stop remaking the Steve Harvey Show, it was only good because of the supporting cast. Bill Bellamy has a show call Mr. box office similar to this. Stop putting old people in a school and thinking young people will watch it. Copy the success of shows like Awkward. Make our young black and brown teenage characters 3 dimensional like these young white actors have the opportunity to. I'm not speaking to the establishment but to black directors and producers whose taste and limited creativity prevent them from being trendsetters in their industry cause they are still trying to profile old ass negroes like they are all Sidney Poitier.

Good for him. I'll watch.
