HBO Renews 'Boardwalk Empire' for a Fourth Season

Nucky Thompson will ride again — HBO announced today that Prohibition series “Boardwalk Empire” will be back for a fourth season. The Terence Winter-created period drama is currently in the midst of its third season — episode three of which, “Bone for Tuna,” aired this past Sunday.

Michael Lombardo, the president of programming at the network, said “Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese and the rest of their outstanding team continue to produce a stunning show thatnever fails to surprise and entertain. We are excited to bring this unique series back for a fourth season.”

“Boardwalk Empire” is certainly well-pedigreed — Winter was a writer on “The Sopranos,” Scorsese directed the pilot, and the cast includes not only Steve Buscemi in a redefining role but Kelly Macdonald, Michael Shannon, Michael Stuhlbarg, Michael Kenneth Williams and more. Set in 1920s Atlantic City, the show follows Thompson (Buscemi) as he expands a bootlegging business booming thanks to Prohibition. According to HBO, last season the series averaged 8.6 million viewers an episode.

Boardwalk Empire is where it’s at for gripping stories, action, and awesome staging and costumes. I’ve been a fan ever since several HBO reps promoted BE a few years back at the DISH call center I work at, and they shared that this would be the next Sopranos. They were not kidding, especially since there’s just so much going on in the series. I record each new episode, and save them so I can watch them again, just because I want to make sure I soak up every detail of the show. My Hopper’s 2-terabyte hard drive has plenty of space, so I have no worries of this show taking up too much memory. I’m eagerly awaiting the news that BE will be renewed for a fifth season! *fingers crossed*
