In the Works: Lynne Ramsay Nabs Backing for Her Take on 'Moby Dick,' Sci-Fi Thriller 'Mobius'

Scott Steindorff’s Scott Pictures will be producing Lynne Ramsay’s ambitious project “Mobius,” a sci-fi psychological thriller based on Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick.” The whale of a tale will be set in deep space, where a crew is lead into ever deeper peril by an unhinged captain on a death mission, obsessed with revenge on an elusive alien entity.

Ramsay and “We Need to Talk About Kevin” co-writer Rory Kinnear re-team on “Mobius.” Scott Pictures had already committed to taking on Ramsay’s imminent and equally promising next project “Janie Got a Gun,” a western starring Natalie Portman and Michael Fassbender. “Janie” begins shooting in January.

In a sideways connection, Tilda Swinton, star of Ramsay’s “Kevin,” recently recorded the first chapter of the Melville classic for “Moby Dick” Big Read, a site dedicated to changing the massive tome’s standing as the “great unread American novel.”

Best of luck Lynne, more so you do realise that this has been done before and rather well by Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan?

So Futurama recently did a Moby Dick episode with that exact same plot. The episode was titled "Mobius Dick" (Season 6, Episode 15).
