Nick Cannon Announces He'll Be Directing & Producing 'Drumline 2' + Several TV Shows Coming

A series of recent tweets from Nick Cannon I was alerted to this morning by a reader:

Shout out to everyone watching Drumline right now. EXCLUSIVE NEWS: I’m producing Drumline 2 and the TV show for VH1. Stay tuned!!; INCREDIBLE got several shows coming out in 2013. U GON’ GET THIS WORK!!!; Wait to you guys hear the storyline for Drumline 2! #hardtokeepsecrets it’s been over a decade since the first one. #classic; SPOILER ALERT: I’m not the main character. I’m too damn old! New class! I’m getting my behind the camera on! But I will be in the movie.

Translation: a sequel to 2002’s Drumline is coming; Cannon isn’t going to star in it (it’ll feature a new class of actors/characters), but he’ll apparently direct it, and will have a role in the movie; he’s clearly very excited about it; and finally, he’ll be behind (or in front of) several new shows in 2013.

The first Drumline (a fish-out-of-water comedy about a talented street drummer from Harlem who enrolls in a Southern university) was a success for Fox, grossing close to $60 million on a $20 million budget; it was directed by Charles Stone III from a script penned by Tina Gordon Chism (who’s making her directorial debut with We The Peeples next year), and starred Cannon, as well as an actor almost everyone seems to love to hate currently, Zoe Saldana.

What the plot for the sequel will be, we’ll find out later.

It won’t be his first time behind the camera however; earlier this year, the renaissance man made his big screen feature film directorial debut in a coming-of-age dramedy for Lionsgate titled School Dance, from a script he co-wrote with Nile Evans, described as being “in the vein of” recent classics like Friday and House Party. That film is listed in post-production currently.

There was also the Keke Palmer Nickelodeon TV film, Rags, which Cannon produced, directed by Billy Woodruff.

As for the TV shows he talks about… he does state, in the first sentence, “I’m producing Drumline 2 and the TV show for VH1,” which suggests that there’ll also be a Drumline TV show, which will air on VH1; Emphasis on the words “the TV show,” right after the revelation of the movie sequel. You guys read that as well?

We’ll wait to learn about the other “incredible” shows he mentions.

Nick Cannon I was waiting on this to come. Have you had or already had auditions for it? People need to stop being no brainers and congratulate him. He's awesome and wants to help out the next person to.

Why? What the hell does Nick Cannon know about drumming? Judging by the first movie, not shit.

Now he is a director/producer? Well, whoever the DP, he/she will have to put in way more work than he/she normally would with a REAL director… OH, and I won't be seeing it. Thanks.

He better take time to take care of his health. He's worth several million, and his wife is worth $200 to $250 million, but I promise that Nick works like he's one check from homeless. I believe that 'Ncredible may be the name of his production company. I like Nick and Mariah both, though. Just take care of yourself to raise dem babies. LOL

This comment doesn't make sense for three reasons: 1. No, she won't be in it both because it's a new class and her career is too big to return. 2. Even if she were to return, what's the reason for the shade? She was in the original. 3. You ain't watching the shit anyway, so…yeah. People acting like Zoe dug up and molested MLK's corpse, then traveled back in time to curbstomp Jesus Christ.

Will Zoe Saldana get this role too?? *eyeroll*

Hey I’m interested in auditioning if anybody has info please let Me know
