R. Kelly is taking over New York Comic Con…sort of. IFC, RCA, and The Action Pack are bringing the epic hip-hopera "Trapped in the Closet" Sing-Along to the Javits Center on Saturday, October 13 in New York City. The "Trapped in the Closet" Sing Along will be a fully interactive cinematic experience complete with on-screen lyrics, props and last, but not least, an R. Kelly dance party in between the original chapters 1-22. IFC is anticipating the exclusive release of new material in November entitled, "Trapped in the Closet: The Next Installment."
"Trapped in the Closet" began as a five-part song on R. Kelly's album TP3. Reloaded in 2005. Since its release, the feature-length music video has gained a cult following. The Action Pack first screened the film at the Alamo in 2007. "Watching the hip-hopera unfold with a packed audience gasping and reacting at every twist and turn was perhaps one of the crowning moments of that decade," said Action Pack founder Henri Mazza. "So as soon as we heard that IFC was going to be releasing new chapters in the hopefully never-ending saga we reached out to them to start the process of bringing these interactive experiences to life."
The Sing-Along at New York Comic Con will be emceed by Mazza who will introduce the music videos, instruct attendees on the proper use of spatulas, toy Berettas, and rubbers throughout the screening, and demand that audience members stand up to "Step in the Name of Love." The event is open to all New York Comic Con badge holders.
