Tasha Smith Confirmed For Zane’s ‘Addicted’

Tasha Smith Confirmed For Zane's 'Addicted'

We can now officially confirm that Tasha Smith is indeed part of the starring cast (along with Boris Kodjoe, Sharon Leal, and William Levy) in Lionsgate’s big screen adaptation of erotic fiction writer Zane’s popular novel Addicted, which follows the trials and tribulations of a successful sex-addicted African American businesswoman.

We’d initially reported that Nia Long and Tasha Smith were in talks to lead the cast, as the sex-addicted woman and and her therapist respectively.

It’s been confirmed that Leal will play the role of the sex-addicted woman, while Smith is onboard as the therapist, as previously reported.

Here’s the proper synopsis:

For Zoe Reynard, finding the pleasure she wants, the way she wants it, is not worth the risk of losing everything she has: marriage to the man she has loved since childhood, a thriving company, three wonderful children. But Zoe feels helpless in the grip of an overpowering addiction…to sex. Finding a compassionate woman therapist to help her, Zoe finally summons the courage to tell her torrid story, a tale of guilt and desire as shocking as it is compelling. From the sensitive artist with whom she spends stolen hours on rumpled sheets to the rough and violent man who draws her toward destruction, Zoe is a woman desperately searching for fulfillment — and something darker, deeper, and perhaps deadly. As her life spins out of control and her sexual escapades carry her toward a dangerous choice, Zoe is racing against time to uncover the source of her “fatal attraction” — as chilling secrets tumble forth from the recesses of a woman’s mind, and perilous temptations lead toward a climax that can threaten her sanity, her marriage… and her life.

The novel is described as a psychological drama; and Lionsgate initially tapped Rosemary Rodriguez (primarily a director of TV shows like L&O:SVU and The Good Wife) to directAddicted, from a script adaptation initially done by Christina Welsh, with a rewrite by playwright Lucy Thurber.

However, Rodriguez was replaced by Bille Woodruff, who is set to direct the film, as we reported over the summer.

Shooting has officially begun.

i was really hoping that nia long got the part as zoe. it would have been perfect. *sigh* but i hope they do the book justice. this is one of my favorite books =) now if they can a THE COLDEST WINTER EVER movie…… =)

Glad to see Sharon Leal get a lead role! She's consistently good and I don't think she's gotten enough projects to really show what she can do. Ugh, why did they have to get Boris Kodjoe though? Assuming he'll be playing the role of Zoe's husband, it's a boring, predictable choice. I would've preferred to see someone like Mehcad Brooks. This does make me wanna re-visit the book and get a clearer picture on how it'll look on screens sans raunchy sex scenes.

Why would Liongate get Billie Woodruff to direct the film? Don't they know every movie that he directed was a flop? Honey was a flop and even Beauty Shop with Queen Latifah was a flop even though I think Beauty Shop was a bad choice for Queen Latifah because she made the movie after she was nominated for an Oscar for the movie Chicago.

I absolutely love Tasha Smith!!! Can't wait to see her as a therapist…can't even imagine that, but I love her…I jst can't wait to see!

Sharon Leal will be good. We cant keep recycling the same black actors over and over. A new face will be good for this. She is really pretty too.

Billie Woodruff having a gay director is the wrong way to go I think. I think this movie needs a female director. Woodruff directed that horrible film Honey a few years back.

Is this movie really going to theatres? Why would a studio choose unknowns like Sharon Leal and Tasha Smith to headline a movie? There are so many younger talented black actresses such as Meagan Good, Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce, Kerry Washington, who could of done a great job with this movie.
I am sure there is an audience for this movie but I am not sure these actors choosen can draw in an audience they haven't proven that they have the star power.

Glad to read that Leal will be playing the lead role. I read the book so I'll definitely be watching this one. Certainly want to see how well they play out the storyline.

Donella

I think I'll watch it.

O___O Well, I hope that Tasha is about to show another side to her acting that we have not seen previously.

MissWildfire

Since studios are starting to shoot black movies from black books lately, I'm waiting for 32 Candles, or maybe even The Coldest Winter Ever finally.

I don't see Tasha as the lead, Nia would've been better.
