Watch: Spielberg and Day-Lewis Talk 'Lincoln' at Lengthy Q&A (VIDEO)

Director Steven Spielberg and Oscar-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis (“There Will Be Blood”) participated in a live Q&A session Wednesday after a special screening of “Lincoln,” starring Day-Lewis as the 16th president.  The full interview and a shorter clip, in which the pair talk about how they can use fear as a driving force in their work, are both linked below.

Journalist Mark Harris served as interviewer, taking questions from the audience as well as social media, as the conversation streamed live on Yahoo Movies. Spielberg and Day-Lewis discuss how they and writer Tony Kushner sifted through the riches of information in Doris Kearns Goodwin’s panoramic Lincoln biography, “Team of Rivals.”  Ultimately, they chose to focus on the last four months of Lincoln’s life, his hard work, and toils: “We did not want to make a movie about a monument named Lincoln,” says Spielberg,” we needed to make a movie about a man named Lincoln.”

The interview lasts for nearly fifty minutes.

“Lincoln” opens in select theaters November 9, 2012 and nationwide November 16, 2012. (NYFF review round-up here.)
