“Halt & Catch Fire,” created by Chris Cantwell and Chris Rodgers (the duo recently brought on to script Chris Hemsworth’s action movie “Shadow Runners”), looks at the personal computing boom in the early ’80s in Texas’ Silicon Prairie through the eyes of three people working in it to challenge the major corporations of the time. Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein (both of “Breaking Bad”) from Gran Via Productions serve as executive producers.
“Turn” is based on Alexander Rose’s book “Washington’s Spies” and is set in the summer of 1778, telling the story of how the unlikely spy group The Culper Ring works during the Revolutionary War. Written by showrunner Craig Silverstein (“Nikita”), “Turn” is executive produced by Barry Josephson (“Bones”) from Josephson Entertainment.
These new pilot orders come on the tail of two earlier ones from the network, for “Low Winter Sun” and the “Untitled LaGravenese/Tony Goldwyn project,” both of which have now completed production. AMC is very selective about the pilots it orders and has a strong tendency to greenlight them to series, so it’s worth paying attention to these projects as they start solidifying.
