Cinedigm Entertainment Group has acquired North American distribution rights to “Violet & Daisy,” the directorial debut of Oscar-winning “Precious” screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher. The company plans a theatrical release in 2013, followed by VOD, digital and DVD releases.
“Violet & Daisy,” which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2011, stars Saoirse Ronan, Alexis Bledel and James Gandolfini in the story of two young New York City assassins who run into trouble on a new assignment. Fletcher wrote the script as well as produced, with John Penotti and Bonnie Timmermann.
“Geoffrey has once again created a uniquely profound coming-of-age story that effortlessly mixes gritty realism with pop culture fantasies,” said Cinedigm exec Vincent Scordino, who negotiated the deal with GreeneStreet Films and CAA on behalf of the filmmakers. “It's a film that will inspire other artists, while satisfying audiences across the country via a variety of delivery platforms.”
Cinedigm has recently released “Hell and Back Again,” “Waste Land” and “Chico & Rita.” The company recently acquired U.S. rights to the Colin Firth-Emily Blunt drama “Arthur Newman,” which also had its premiere at Toronto.
