Besides a trailer over the summer, things have been pretty quiet around Sam Raimi's "Oz The Great And Powerful," but with the spring release date now approaching, Disney are starting to get the marketing ball rolling, and to kick it off, they've unveiled the first of three posters for the movie.
This one zeroes in on the green-faced Wicked Witch, who will provide some obstacles for the hero in this quasi-prequel to "The Wizard Of Oz." James Franco leads the picture as Oscar Diggs, a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, who is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz. He thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is, until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful wizard, but into a better man as well.
And from the fantastical to the life affirming, Ang Lee's "Life Of Pi" continues to ride a strong wave of buzz, and while there are just a few weeks to go until it lands on U.S. shores, internationall territories are also getting ready. Three posters (via Movielicious!) from overseas promise hope, adventure and triumph in the picture, and if early reviews are any indication, Lee's picture delivers on all fronts. Based on the book by Yann Martel, it tells the incredible story of a young boy marooned in the middle of the ocean, with a Bengal tiger to keep him company.
"Oz The Great And Powerful" waves the wand on March 8, 2013 with "Life Of Pi" being served on November 21st.
