This week’s EW looks at what the future holds for the ever-expanding “Star Wars” galaxy. Highlights — including info about Harrison Ford’s possible involvement, quotes from Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker in the original three films), and George Lucas on continuing with the franchise– “for the next hundred years” — are below.
Mark Hamill on Episodes VII, VIII and IX:
“When [Lucas] said, ‘We decided we’re going to do Episodes VII, VIII, and IX,’ I was just gobsmacked. ‘What? Are you nuts?’ I can see both sides of it. Because in a way, there was a beginning, a middle, and an end, and we all lived happily ever after and that’s the way it should be. And it’s great that people have fond memories— if they do have fond memories. But on the other hand, there’s this ravenous desire on the part of the true believers to have more and more and more material.”
A “highly placed source” on the possibility of Harrison Ford, Hammill and Carrie Fisher returning for the next film:
“Harrison is open to the idea of doing the movie and he’s upbeat about it; all three of them are. Things look good and people want to make this happen, so it will probably move forward when there’s a script to read.”
“Star Wars” forever?
Last week Lucas told Disney shareholders in a taped message that he’s handing over “a large group of ideas and characters and books and all kinds of things—we could go on making Star Wars for the next hundred years.”
