Upcoming Events: Hurricane Sandy Storm Relief at the ReRun and Cinemonde Soiree

Even as the first snowfall of the year floats down onto New York Wednesday afternoon, parts of the city still have a long way to go to recover from Hurricane Sandy. If you missed Oscilloscope’s fundraising screenings at Brooklyn Bowl Monday night but love independent film and still have a hankering to help out with relief efforts, here are two more upcoming events for you to check out.

On Thursday, Nov. 8, IFP and Filmmaker Magazine are holding a kickoff party to celebrate their new partnership with the reRun Theater in Dumbo, Brooklyn, which involves the magazine’s editorial staff curating theatrical screenings of work from self-distributed filmmakers. That night, the organizers will be distributing pre-paid envelopes to send to the NY Red Cross for suggested $10 donations for storm relief. In addition, IFP and reRun will donate 100% of the proceeds from the evening’s “Girl Walk // All Day” ticket sales to the local chapter of Red Cross.

Also, Cinémonde Soiree #28, which will feature a sneak preview of Thierry Binisti’s “A Bottle in the Gaza Sea,” a screening of Florence Buchanan’s new short “Right There” and desserts made by gourmet chocolate chef Lisa Mecray Rogers, will take place Nov. 15 at the Roger Smith Hotel (47th & Lexington). Organizers plan to contribute $5 from every ticket to the Red Cross.

We encourage Indiewire readers to let us know about other indie-film storm relief tie-ins.
