Watch Chiwetel Ejiofor's 'Hamlet' From Documentary 'Why Shakespeare?'

This morning I was reading up on actor Ira Aldridge (Adrian Lester is playing him in a new stage production at the Tricycle theater in London – see Sergio's announcement HERE), and I stumbled upon this video of Chiweter Ejiofor performing Hamlet, from Lawrence Bridges' 2005 documentary Why Shakespeare?, which featured similar performances, as well as reflections on the Bard, from the likes of Tom Hanks, Michael York, Martin Sheen, Julie Taymor, William Shatner, Bill Pullman, Michael Richards, Christina Applegate, and of course Chiwetel Ejiofor, and a few others.

The National Endowment for the Arts comissioned the short 20-minute work, which is embedded after the Chiwetel excerpt. I thought it would be a safe Sunday post, since we rarely do any posting on the weekends.

Now can folks see why I've been imploring that he be T'Challa, amongst other lead roles.


This was so touching and so inspiring!


He speaks so rapidly it's hard to comprehend and savor what is being said. Hope he slows down so you can enjoy the words.

Frequent mistake when acting and even more so directing Shakespeare. Those who are familiar assume the audience can keep up and understand.


He's so good, I can hardly stand it. Wish he got more dramatic work in the US.
