As we await the final New York Film Critics Circle results and anticipate the National Board of Review December 5 and LA Film Critics Association December 9, top ten lists are starting to publish. These votes will start to push momentum toward certain winners.
– John Waters has posted his Top Ten list in Art Forum, with Terence Davies’ “The Deep Blue Sea” at the top. His write-ups are always hilarious. Waters on Benh Zeitlin’s “Beasts of the Southern Wild”:
“Directed as if the film crew snuck aboard a Weather Channel boat during Hurricane Katrina, kidnapped the skipper, hijacked the storm chasers’ equipment, swam ashore, and made a boldly original movie.”
– P T Anderson’s “The Master” tops Sight and Sound’s Top 10 Films of the year list. Miguel Gomes’ “Tabu” comes in at second place, followed by “Amour,” “Holy Motors,” “Beasts of Southern Wild,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” “Beyond The Hills,” “Once Upon a Time in Anatolia,” “This is Not a Film,” and “Cosmopolis.”
