In the Works: BBC Set to Adapt J.K. Rowling's 'Casual Vacancy'; 'Jane Eyre' Producer Onboard

The BBC is adapting J.K. Rowling's foray into non-YA lit, "The Casual Vacancy."  Brit film and TV producer Paul Trijbits will executive produce a television production of the bestseller. Trijbits is first tasked with finding a writer to adapt. (Rowling talks to Charlie Rose about leaving "Harry Potter" and writing "Vacancy" here.)

The producer's resume includes Disney's upcoming Tom Hanks-starrer "Saving Mr. Banks," Working Title's 2011 "Jane Eyre," and major six-part BBC drama "Dancing on the Edge," scheduled to air in early 2013.

Per usual, Rowling will be a close collaborator on the project, overseeing the number and length of episodes. "The Casual Vacancy" was first published in September and sold well despite mixed reviews. It centers on a quaint English town where the economic and generational differences heat up in the wake of a council member's death.
