Oxygen Media Orders ‘Daring’ New 1-Hour Special, ‘All My Babies’ Mamas’ (I’m Sorry)

Oxygen Media Orders 'Daring' New 1-Hour Special, 'All My Babies' Mamas' (I'm Sorry)

Oxygen Media has ordered what they're describing as a "daring" (according to their press release) new 1-Hour special titled All My Babies' Mamas, which will premiere next spring.

The project will center on the complicated lives of one man, his many women, and their many children.

Further… the series which comes from creative duo Liz Gateley and Tony DiSanto of DiGa Vision

… will capture the highs and lows of this extreme 'blended family' that is anything but ordinary, while also showing the drama and the passion behind life's most unexpected situations.

In addition, Cori Abraham, Senior Vice President of Development at Oxygen Media, says:

"'All My Babies' Mamas' will be filled with outrageous and authentic over-the-top moments that our young, diverse female audience can tweet and gossip about."

Seemingly promising drama-filled entertainment, showcasing the humor, heart and dysfunction of it all, the press release doesn't make any race or culture-specific statements that tell us anything about the background of the man, or his many women and children. To be blunt, it doesn't say whether All My Babies' Mamas will star black people. But, of course, given the title, and the many jokes, as well as realities I think we're all familiar with, I, like you, probably immediately thought that the characters likely will be of African descent.

So I did a little digging to either confirm or negate my assumptions, and, while I can't say that I'm 100% certain that this will center on a black man and his families, I feel fairly confident that it will. Primarily because I found the below video on Vimeo, registered to a DiGa Vision as the account holder – DiGa Vision also being the name of the production company behind the above Oxygen upcoming special.

And as you can see, based on the title of the video, as well as what you'll find in the content of the video, this is likely a preview/promo/pitch of what they sold to Oxygen… unless something's changed in the last 2 months (Vimeo says the video was uploaded 2 months ago).

In short, ATL-based rapper Carlos "Shawty LoWalker is our "man," with 10 "baby mamas," and 11 kids… and, oh, by the way, a new girlfriend who is the same age as his oldest children.

Something tells me this video will disappear soon after I post this entry, so if you click here and it's gone, you'll know why.

Best dam show on TV

PimpsUpHoesDown

This show is absolutely brilliant. Too many people want to disguise the black community and pretend that we are white. This show is about our culture. Like it or dislike it, this is how we live. We black men have an insatiable desire for women. Why should we supress our natural animalistic desires. The Majority of our women are not offended by our lifestyle, only those who have been brainwashed by other cultures. We are from Africa where for thousands of years our practice has been to be with many women and father as much children as possible. It's the womans job to tend to the children. Embrace our culture, do not disgrace.

Willie

At least black people don't hide it and call it a religion to have so many babies and babies mamas.

Carlos "Shawty Lo" Walker Is my new hero.

All My Babies Mama's. —— We don't want it and we don't need it. There is enough drama in our african american vortex that make it more difficult to live a normal life. Our children are confused enough. And worst of all; The mothers and fathers should think of whats best for the good of there children. Hurting is what they are doing and expoiting them to the world will be turn into a nightmare later on them. Be the responsible person. Put your love ones first and keep the media out your lives. We as a people should know better. After all you don't history repeating itself through your kids now do you. You don't want them to began thinking the words were we mistakes from careless emotion in-stead of love. Remember LOVE IS WHAT WE TELL THEM EVERY DAY WE SEE THERE FACES.

Sergio, great line about the trains and running…flipping the ending of the defiant ones.————-this video was taken down TWICE within 5 days by two different video sites—wow——you know how lot of modern comedians copy the language of Richard Pryor without the social commentary? Shawty Lo is copying the lifestyles of Bob Marley and Fela Kuti….but without the talent, of course…

Please boycott this show!!! Everytime we take 1 step forward, we take 2 steps back. I am so tired of my AA women with low self esteem, 'I need a man, doesnt matter if he is a piece of a man', and/or looking for child support sleeping with these rappers, athletes, etc with no regard for the high HIV rates in our community.

Why don't these stations cast other races in trashy stereotypical shows???

Please boycott this show!!!!

Judy

Great! Make all the African American babies POSSIBLE. With 500 African Americans murdered in Chicago in one year; evil people like Zimmerman and Dunn that cruelly murdered two 17 year old African American youths for just being Black and Beautiful; plus the numerous murders of African Americans by racist police and other bigots, soon African Americans will be as extinct as Dinosaurs. If America can welcome illegal aliens that circumvent the legal system for citizenship and provide free school, medical benefits, food stamps, welfare, etc. at the expense of taxpayers, then I say keep up the good work Mr. Carlos "Shawty Lo" Walker. The more babies the merrier. At least the rapper can afford to take care of the African American kids he's bought in this world. Lifetime made a movie about a group of white teenagers that agreed to get pregnant at the same time. Society was okay with THAT! The NO-TALENT Kim Kardashian made over $40 million. So, why criticize Mr. Shawty Lo for having 10 baby mamas and 11 children? For those that are complaining, did you criticize the white pregnant teenagers, talentless Kim kardashian, stupid shows like the Bachelors, etc. Please stop the double standard. Why shouldn't Mr. Shawty Lo and his families get paid by the Oxygen Network? I'm sure Lifetime paid did the white teenagers that chose to have babies out of wedlock. So I am elated that there are 11 more beautiful African Americans in the world. Thank you Oxygen for giving African Americans jobs. Thank you Mr. Shawty Lo, I appreciate you. I pray all your children are healthy and become successful like their father. Hopefully, there is a workable mutually respectful relationship with the mamas and children.

Oxygen network is really slipping by broadcasting garbage. All my babies mamas is a complete waste of airtime.

EMAILED TO OXYGEN:

Dear Oxygen Media,

You have lost your way. When you launched you claimed that you were a network dedicated to inspire women. Over the past few seasons, you have done the exact opposite. While claiming to be a network for Gen O Girls to Live Out Loud you have dug into the bottom of the societal dump and green lit a show with Shawty Lo and the mother of his children. Your working title "All My Babies Mommas" does not even give the children involved the dignity that they deserve….you have only consigned to have them witness the degrading behavior of their 'parents'.

Thus, our national group of outraged and concerned female and male viewers and parents will encourage our members to demand that this abusive 'show' never airs including:

1) Boycotting your advertisers

2) Boycotting your network and partners

3) Urge our cable provider to cancel Oxygen

Instead of providing entertainment which provides 'oxygen' for women and their children, what you clearly intend to do is suffocate them. We respectfully request a prompt response to our concerns by December 31st.

Sincere Regards,

Sabrina Lamb

Liz is also a founding partner and co-owner, along with Tony DiSanto, of DiGa, a studio and production company hybrid. In what Liz describes as her “dream job,” she is responsible for leading the development of ground-breaking new weekly and daily series for the channel including both scripted and reality projects.

Ms. Gateley is probably best known for creating the game-changing hit reality series, Laguna Beach, inspired by her childhood growing up in Palos Verdes, California. It was the first thing she pitched at MTV back in 2003, the summer in which she started, and she went on to serve as Executive Producer of that series. Her next creation was 8th & Ocean, which also went on to become a hit series for MTV. Since then, she has developed a diverse slate of hits series for the network, which most recently included Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant, on which she also served as executive producer. Ms. Gateley has successfully expanded MTV programming to include hit shows such as The Hills, Randy Jackson Presents America’s Next Best Dance Crew, The Buried Life, Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory, Nitro Circus, The City, Human Giant and Run’s House as well as the revealing 2009 documentary, Britney Spears: For the Record which kicked off Britney’s comeback.

High profile projects in development under Ms. Gateley’s guidance include the series “Teen Wolf,” a thriller reinvention of the 1985 blockbuster film, and the critically acclaimed British hit series, “Skins.” Recent projects include two scripted comedy series, The Hard Times Of RJ Berger and Warren The Ape which aired in June 2010.

Prior to MTV, Ms. Gateley worked at Lifetime Television where she was responsible for the development of primetime and daytime scripted and reality original series and specials, including Strong Medicine, The Division, Intimate Portrait, and Weddings of a Lifetime. Before Lifetime, Liz got her first shot in the entertainment industry while working at William Morris Agency in their agent trainee program. Liz is also an attorney who practiced corporate law.

She graduated from Loyola Law School with a J.D. degree after earning a B. A. in Economics/Business from University of California, Los Angeles.

Gateley reports to Tony DiSanto, President of Programming, MTV, and is based in New York City.

Umm…is it possible to tell a whole network to kill itself?

This IS a an unacceptable embarrassment to the black community, not to mention for women in general. We need to STOP acting like this – and we for damn sure need to STOP acting like this IN PUBLIC. We need to stop condoning this type of behavior with our financial support AND/OR with our silence.

We complain about white people treating us like we are all lazy and ignorant and violent and on welfare and constantly out there making babies, etc… BUT THAT IS ALL THAT THEY SEE IN THE MEDIA. And we the black community continue to pour our money into supporting the very idiots (like this moron, and Chris Brown, OJ, pretty much the entire NBA….) who constantly throw us under the bus. The media-driven minstrel show needs. to. stop!!!!

ShunJay

I'm totally disgusted. Wow!

Well, Big Love paved the way so I'm not surprised.

Lawd to the hell, hell no.

Video is gone as you predicted…..Based on the picture above and the synopsis that you gave, it's clear that Oxygen is struggling for ratings, and they are going with the old tactic of throwing any old crap at Black audiences in order to get their ratings/advertising dollars up. Just ignore it, and don't watch it….not even on dvr.

Miles Ellison

What exactly is "daring" about this?

Adam Scott Thompson

I'm sorry too, folks. "Dey Know" still goes hard! The official remix? Harder.

getthesenets

Condom companies should buy BLOCKS of ads for this show

getthesenets

CORI ABRAHAM , huh?

I'm reminded of the famous appearance that Brando made on Larry King Live….where he mentioned that viewers have seen stereotypes and caricatures of EVERY ethnic group…..EXCEPT one.

tyron tackett

I can't believe this sizzle reel wasn't a sketch comedy show!!! WTF and WE wonder why Black folks are in crises. Blaming "The Man" only goes so far. Oxygen – smh…the apocalyse is here…smh…next thing there will be a Latino version…smh…WOW…may the ghosts of those Black people who died for freedom/equality/civil rights rise up like the walking dead and get these trifling Negroes..smh…Good spot S&A -glad you letting folks know about this trash.

other song

I tried but couldn't get past 2:13. Anyway, "Dey Know" was and still is a nice song. Great beat (Mandrill!), humorous raps. It's the only thing Shawty-Lo-related that will ever bring a smile to my face.

Tonton Michel

Just when I think the world of reality TV can't get any more ratchet here we go again.

M.

Well…now I'm for sure leaving Atlanta. Smh. Where is the petition to keep this from airing?

BluTopaz

I'm going to pitch a new reality tv show; Crazy Whitefolks With Assault Weapons. Will advise how far I get.

Taz

Are you freakin' kidding me? WTH….

Darkan

OH MY GOD….. Sweet Jesus have mercy on us all. SMDH until i fall unconscious.

Anti-believer

I saw this on deadline but I was hoping this wasn't a Black family and it is! All the adults, who are involved in this family, should be a shame of themselves. It parallels the US government giving baby mommas food stamp and check if there isn't a father in the home. It's a trap!

Nadell

(deep sigh)
I guess Lil Wayne, Dwight Howard & Terrell Owens will be next in line for their spinoffs of this show….

getthesenets

good investigative work
this show is meant to compete against/bite /copy one of the hip hop shows set in atlanta

shawty lo is onetime rapper/one hit wonder based in ATL

so it's not a coincidence that he was used in the pitch, or that it was ordered.

if they have a theme song to the show based on the old school novelty record….it's over

"who dat is? that's just my baby mama….that's just my baby mama…who dat is?

lowest common denominator

Alleycat

They want to get their hands on some of that trashy reality tv money that Vh1 and E! are getting.

No

I'm wondering if a certain class of people are going to not complain about this film more so than a fictional film called Django Unchained.
