The Franchise Goes Dark In First Trailer For 'Star Trek Into Darkness'

Is it the Dark Knight effect, or is it just me? It seems like there's a *darkness* theme that's running through a lot of these formerly glossy big-budget action movies. I'm thinking of the trailer to the next Iron Man movie, as well as this one – the first Star Trek Into Darkness trailer.

It's subtitle Into The Darkness, so I guess it makes sense here. But it looks a lot darker than the first Star Trek

Zoe Saldana as Uhura is in the trailer, but for a couple of flashes.

I'm excited to see this.

Movies don't seem that much darker to me now than they were ten years ago. I think the music's just gotten more… suggestive. Like that wailing woman track they used to put on every movie so you know how tragic it all was. lol As a Trekkie (and the son of a Trekkie), I approve of the path J.J. Abrams is on.

Nothing wrong with the dahkness ;-)

I for one can't wait for this movie. Admittedly, I had reservations going into the first movie. JJ Abrams has always been "hit or miss" with me. Most of his stuff falling in the "miss" category. But I was pleasantly surprised at how good the first one turned out. Although I'm a huge Star Trek fan, I'm not one of those fan boys who were upset at how the timeline was changed in the Star Trek universe. He did a good job of bringing the franchise back from the dead. It was on life support around Star Trek: Insurrection and died with Star Trek:Nemesis.

IDK, the first teasers always look dark since before The Dark Knight. Spiderman 2 and 3 both had darker trailers. I think the Dark Knight effect is that no one can remember what big blockbuster movies were like before TDK, so they compare everything to that.
