Watch: Trippy, Eerie & Baffling Trailer For Shane Carruth's 'Upstream Color,' Spring Release Date Set

Oh, so you thought the guy who made brain busting “Primer” in 2004 was going to go easy on his next effort out. Maybe a romantic comedy or a drama about a marriage falling apart…it is premiering at the Sundance Film Festival after all… But nah, Shane Carruth is ready to make you think hard once again.

The trailer for his upcoming and mysterious “Upstream Color” has dropped and….yeah, it’s a head-scratcher. Barely a minute long, what it doesn’t deliver in any plot, it more than makes up for in some beautiful imagery and an absolutely chilling, skin-crawling atmosphere. The official synopsis (not that you’ll glean anything more out of it): A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the lifecycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives.

Oh, and one more thing. It looks like the movie is coming fast and completely independently. It has now been slated for an April 5, 2013 release date. How, when, and where it’s playing….we’ll just have to wait and see…

Do you guys know if this is "A Topiary" but under a different name? Carruth's Wikipedia has some info on "A Topiary:"

David Sullivan, one of the leads in Primer, claimed on his Twitter that "Shane Carruth's next project, A Topiary, is in the early stages of pre-production." Filmmaker Rian Johnson also posted: "Shane… has a mind-blowing sci-fi script. Let's all pray to the movie-gods that he gets it made soon." In 2010, several news sources reported that A Topiary is in the works, and that the script is written. There is already a website for the movie which, according to Carruth in an interview to io9, "The website for now is just a place mark as financing has yet to be completed. I'm cautiously optimistic that this can happen soon and couldn't be happier with the filmmakers that have committed to the project so far."

The website still exists.

I'm there.

This is my most anticipated movie for 2013. Anyone who hasn't seen Primer yet seriously needs to check it out. It's the most brilliant $7,000 movie you'll likely ever see.

This looks fucking awesome
