2013 Golden Globe Predictions: Best Director

Indiewire will provide regular updates of our predictions for the Golden Globe Awards through January 13th, when the winners are announced.

Here’s our take on the best director category, the winner of which has not coincided with Oscar in the past three years (Globes went with James Cameron, David Fincher and Martin Scorsese to Oscars’ Kathryn Bigelow, Tom Hooper and Michel Hazanavicius). This year, three Oscar snubbees all have great chances of winning in Quentin Tarantino, Kathryn Bigelow and Ben Affleck, which would assure that would be the case again. Or maybe they’ll just give it to Steven Spielberg?

Our take below: Check out all predictions in all the categories here.

The nominees:
Ben Affleck, “Argo”
Ang Lee, “Life of Pi”
Steven Spielberg, “Lincoln”
Quentin Tarantino, “Django Unchained”
Kathryn Bigelow, “Zero Dark Thirty”

Will win: Ben Affleck, “Argo”
Could win: Any of them.
Should win: Kathryn Bigelow, “Zero Dark Thirty”

I agree that there is a 3 way race at the globes but not the oscars (with Argo being excluded from those). I can't say which one will win, but I would like to see the awards split like last year.

I don't know why you don't think Ang Lee will be nominated. It's either going to be Affleck or Bigelow. Lincoln will be dethroned if it isn't already. The hype behind ZDT is monstrous

This is a horrendous list.
