The 85th Oscars ceremony (February 26) will include a tribute to the James Bond franchise, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012. 007 may have more of a presence at the Academy Awards than initially predicted, with the recent Producers Guild Award nominations — often a bellwether for Oscar Best Picture nods — including “Skyfall” in its ten Picture selections. (On the other hand, the producers tend to be somewhat more mainstream and hit-oriented than the tonier Academy.)
Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron state: “Starting with ‘Dr. No’ back in 1962, the 007 movies have become the longest-running motion picture franchise in history and a global phenomenon.”
Academy Award nominations will be announced on January 10.
