Annapurna and Color Force Take Film Rights to Bestseller 'Where'd You Go, Bernadette'

Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures and Color Force have secured the feature film rights to Maria Semple's bestselling novel "Where'd You Go, Bernadette." Scott Neudstadter and Michael Weber ("500 Days of Summer") will pen the script, with Semple serving as executive producer.

Semple's satire finds some simliarities to Gillian Flynn's buzzy mystery novel "Gone Girl" (also in development at Reese Witherspoon's banner Pacific Standard), tracking the disappearance of a once-successful Los Angeles female architect through emails, letters and texts, with her Microsoft-guru husband and teenage daughter left to find her.

Semple states that she "can't think of two more impressive women" than Annapurna's Ellison and Color Force's Nina Jacobson, the producer behind the blockbuster "Hunger Games" series.
