The memory-loss, art heist thriller, which will have a limited U.S. release on April 5th, follows an auction house assistant (James McAvoy) who suffers from amnesia shortly after stealing a Goya painting for Vincent Cassel’s team of thieves. Forced to undergo hypnosis by hypnotist Rosario Dawson and a pissed Cassel in order to remember where he hid the painting, the layers of illusion and reality begin to blur.
The film’s previous U.S. posters took a more simplistic approach, with hypnotic spirals swirling and large text etched across each actor’s face, too closely resembling “The Social Network” poster, which was a rip of “The Man Who Fell To Earth” poster anyway. Yet the latest addition to the film’s visual marketing is a bit more exciting, looking like an artsy translation of the frenetic mind fuck the trailer evokes. We prefer the creative 80s CGI-meets-broken, discolored VHS tape look for a thriller that is about, well, art.
