Cinedigm Digital Cinema Corp. has named veteran Tom Hassell Vice-President of Theatrical Distribution. He’ll handle all aspects of theatrical distribution for the indie distributor, which recently acquired “Arthur Newman,” starring Colin Firth and Emily Blunt and “Violet and Daisy,” starring Saoirse Ronan and James Gandolfini, and Kirby Dick’s Oscar short-listed documentary, “The Invisible War.”
Hassell has worked for three decades in distrbution, on both the studio (Columbia Pictures) and indie specialty (Polygram Filmed Entertainment, Destination Films, New Market Films, Picturehouse Films, and Film District) sides of the film industry.
CInedigm has been ramping up its distribution slate from limited to wider release films. “In the last year, we have made tremendous strides in our entertainment efforts, distributing films from five-screen targeted releases to 20-screen day-and-day releases to films spanning 1,000 screens,” said Susan Margolin, co-President of Cinedigm’s entertainment group, “and we have many more projects slated for 2013. Tom will play a critical role in releasing these films in the ‘Cinedigm’ way – putting producers first, being good partners to the exhibition community and bringing compelling content to demanding audiences.”
