Jennifer Lawrence Calls Acting Stupid, Stares at Meryl Streep, Remains Insanely Likeable

Jennifer Lawrence Calls Acting Stupid, Stares at Meryl Streep, Remains Insanely Likeable

Another day, another reason to want to be best friends with Jennifer Lawrence. With Oscar nominations looming on January 10th, Lawrence, who is a nomination shoo-in for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, recently deemed acting “stupid” in her upcoming Vanity Fair cover story.

When asked about how she stays grounded despite her fame, Lawrence responded bluntly.

Not to sound rude, but [acting] is stupid. Everybody’s like, ‘How can you remain with a level head?’ And I’m like, ‘Why would I ever get cocky? I’m not saving anybody’s life. There are doctors who save lives and firemen who run into burning buildings. I’m making movies. It’s stupid.

Despite her blunt and hilarious response about acting, it clearly doesn’t make Lawrence any less star-struck when it comes to her acting heroines. In the interview, Lawrence also mentions a hilarious anecdote about seeing Meryl Streep.

Once I’m obsessed with somebody, I’m terrified of them instantly. I’m not scared of them—I’m scared of me and how I will react. Like, for instance, one time someone was introducing me to Bill Maher, and I saw Meryl Streep walk into the room, and I literally put my hand right in Bill Maher’s face and said, ‘Not now, Bill!,’ and I just stared at Meryl Streep.

When interviewer, Jim Windolf, asked Lawrence if she then spoke to Streep, she said: “Of course not. I just creepily stared at her.”

It’s so refreshing to hear an actress say what’s on her mind and also acknowledge the universal reaction to seeing Meryl Streep. Lawrence will be hosting Saturday Night Live on January 19th, something that we here at Women and Hollywood are really looking forward to.

Just for putting her hand in Bill Maher's face and saying, "Not now, Bill," she deserves our undying respect and admiration. Would that more people in Hollywood followed her example.

I don't get this fascination with her. No matter what she says, people will always says she's funny and smart. Other actresses said the same thing about acting, but they got bashed, instead Jennifer is the best girl ever,so true and so funny!!! Well I can't like someone who said that true women are the ones with curves. No matter how good at acting she is! I hope the best for her career, but people should stop putting her on the pedestal,as if she didn't say dumb things everytime she opens her mouth. She says dumb things and people mix these dumb things, with funny things. No way! Plus if other actresses said the same things she says, they wouldn't be praised like Jennifer. Double standard,I guess.

Easy to say acting is stupid when it just 'happened' for you and you never had to work for it.
Firstly, Lawrence was 'discovered', hence she got lucky. Secondly, she has never received any form of professional training, (she hasn't really bothered with it either and isn't afraid to say so).
People find her so refreshing because she's a normal, funny and good looking girl who also happens to be somewhat talented (i'll give her that)
If she knew what so many professionally trained and talented actors have to go through every day without the slightest recognition or fancy dresses and galas, she'd watch her mouth.
Basically, don't call acting stupid when there are thousands out there working day and night to achieve what you got out of mere luck.

It is very rare I comment on anything…but the ignorance of Guyver's comments could not be left untouched by judgement. I see ignorant fools like you, posting on articles in Yahoo or Facebook, all the time. Usually they're white, and taking articles about something/someone black or Mexican, and using it as a springboard to go on a semi to "all-out" racist rant with some political agenda. You are no different. I couldn't give a rat's ass about Lawrence, personally. She's a very good young actress, that has now made 3 good movies. No more, no less. That she doesn't find the need to celebrate that as though she's an A-lister just yet, is, for lack of a better word, cool. If you feel the need to find race the issue behind every single thing in life, I feel bad for you. You perpetuate a cycle that, while undeniably still present, has no question been on the downswing. In summary, you're an idiot. Now go complain about more stale topics like lack of black head coaches in the NFL and affirmative action…

"Not to sound rude, but [acting] is stupid". So she actually said something like *it* is stupid, it maybe meaning the attention acting gets, she didn't state 'acting is stupid' at all.

Funny how Anne Hathaway kinda says and does the same things as Jennifer Lawrence, but comes across as fake, as if she's trying to be the clumsy but cute little girl. I HATE HER!

Jules

I just finished reading the vanity fair article with Jennifer Lawrence and it's a great read…I understand what Lawrence meant, and good for her. Awesome actress with her feet on the ground; ie., doesn't take herself too seriously.

olen

get this gossip off my IndieWire

sesay

I agreed with you guver white actress can say anything without be grille or losing a role because of what say, they are white and she know that she going to get away with it for a black actress wouldn't get away with it she would loss roles because of what she say and Jennifer Lawrence is not even that pretty the Hollywood making her

jaquay

Acting is a hard job Eric and the only thing stupid is doing something you do not love-not doing something you love and get paid for very well for..and an actor can be just as powerful as a doctor or a fireman-for as an actor we save lives in different ways..I think it was an ignorant statement..especially when one is blessed to be working on a high level as Jennifer…quiet disappointed myself in the comment.

guyver

Wow, it must be nice to be a so so actress who hasn't even done a truly spectacular role yet, while being in the industry a few years tops… and be able to call acting stupid. I guess having that white skin helps to get those lead roles… SMDH. It wouldn't be stupid if you had been working your ass of for twenty years or more only to be held back for the color of your skin… must be nice being white and stupid.

ok

Yes she is really real and great, nothing fake about her.

Zee

Great article Kerensa!…I agree, Jennifer Lawrence = Awesome.

yaya
