To say that we’re rooting for Jeff Nichols would be an understatement. The helmer has delivered two great films so far, early into this career, “Shotgun Stories” and “Take Shelter.” With the buzz growing around his name, he was able to snag Matthew McConaughey to star in his latest effort “Mud.” After after premiering last spring at the Cannes Film Festival, the movie is ready to come home and make a U.S. premiere very soon at the Sundance Film Festival.
Co-starring Reese Witherspoon, Tye Sheridan (“The Tree Of Life“), Sam Shephard and featuring Michael Shannon in a small role, the film tells the story of the eponymous fugitive who forms an unlikely friendship with a pair of Arkansas teens who help him evade capture and reunite with his soulmate Juniper. While it didn’t set the world aflame at Cannes, perhaps overshadowed by the other American offerings and Nicole Kidman peeing on Zac Efron, buzz has still been pretty good around the movie, and this trailer certainly makes it one we’re marking our calendars for.
“Mud” will hit theaters this spring. Watch below.
