"The Walking Dead" has been in the news lately, not because of its mid-season return on February 10th but because the show recently shucked off another showrunner, with Glen Mazzara set to depart after closing out the current third season.
If the showrunner has become high-end television's answer to the film's director-as-auteur, AMC is currently running against trend with a show whose huge ratings popularity exists in defiance of a sense of a consistent creative vision — unless you count graphic novel creator Robert Kirkman, whose clashes with Mazzara reportedly led to the latter's departure.
Either way, Mazzara's on board for the remaining eight episdoes in this season, one he's really brought around thanks, in part, to the prison arc and the rise of an antagonist in David Morrissey's Governor. The teaser below finds Rick (Andrew Lincoln) declaring "We're going to war" and ends with an image of him meeting up for a talk with the Governor that, were guessing, won't end in hugs.
AMC renewed "The Walking Dead" for a fourth season in December.
