Amandla Stenberg Joins Larenz Tate, Craig Robinson In NBC Pilot From 'The Office' Exec Producer

Amandla Stenberg has joined Larenz Tate and Craig Robinson in Robinson’s upcoming NBC pilot from The Office executive producer Greg Daniels – a yet-to-be-titled project penned by Owen Ellickson (supervising producer for The Office).

The project will follow a talented musician (played by Robinson) with rough edges, who adjusts to his new life as a music teacher in a big-city middle school, where he encounters teacher politics and the temptations of single moms.

Larenze Tate will play Kevin, Craig’s brother and partner in the duo’s band called The Filthy Gentleman. Further, Kevin is described as a charismatic lady-killer who has never held a regular job, thanks to his musical talents, and who thinks Craig’s dedication to his students is a waste of time.

Stenberg will play Irene, a spunky, fearless and smart 8th grader who is desperate to learn to sing despite the fact that she can’t, and Craig is reluctant to teach her.

She was last seen as Rue in The Hunger Games, and also co-starred as the younger version of Zoe Saldana’s character in Colombiana.

I love, looove this girl. So glad her talent is being appreciated.

Great. Looking at this post and the slew of posts today reinforces a comment that I made a week or so ago. I am happy about these casting announcements, but we can't deny that there is an EXTREME element of sexism (in addition to racism) that African American women are facing in the industry. 80% of the casting announcements on this site are for men, and if you remove Nicole Beharie from the women's side of the equation, the %ages for women are even bleaker. When are we going to have a discussion about this issue?

Yay! She stole the show in Hunger Games!
And I'm thrilled to see Larenz Tate's name attached to another project.
