‘Best Man’ Sequel Now Titled ‘The Best Man Holiday’

'Best Man' Sequel Now Titled 'The Best Man Holiday'

For those who have been awaiting the Best Man sequel – the film, to be released Nov 15, is now titled The Best Man Holiday, Unversal Pictures recently announced.

Malcolm D. Lee writes, directs and produces the movie, the long-awaited next chapter to the 1999 film that ushered in a new era of comedy. Sean Daniel (The Mummy series) joins Lee to produce the film.

Those of you who weighed in on Tambay's previous post on the sequel should have much to discuss.

It's early in the morning so my voice might be a little scratchy, so work with me while I sing the song "What A Difference A Day Made".

"What a difference a day made. Twenty-four little hours brought the sun and the flowers, where there used to be rain. My yesterday was blue, dear. Today I'm part of you, dear. My lonely nights are through, dear, since you said you were mine. What a difference a day makes. There's a rainbow before me… skies above can't be stormy, since that moment of bliss, that thrilling kiss."

Of course I am asking the question "what a difference does a name "change" make? Granted, a movie's name can be a great calling card, but since this is a sequel, we basically know what it's about. So really, can a name change attract more people or possibly run some away?

What if the sequel to Sergio's favorite slave film, Mandigo, was titled "The Black Studs Returns"? And, what if the the sequel to Roots was titled "Roots: We're Movin' On Up… to the sky, we've finally got a piece of the pie."

I know, I know, I'm playing the race card, but seriously, who really cares about the title? Well, I know some black folks can be funny, and picky and clicky and snobby, so there might be a name change that would definitely turn heads. Check this:

Sequel: The "Best Man" Marries Madea: It's a new holiday.

Hey, com' on now. One man's garbage is another man's treasure. So that name change could lead to big box office success. :-) And possibly, the film might be more entertaining than a dull sequel to an already over-hyped film.

This won't be the release title; too dumb.

Looking forward to the sequel, but this title is just lazy. They need to go back to the drawing board for the title. I suggest holding a contest this summer for a either a $500 cash prize or two tickets to the official premiere for the fan who can come up with the best name.
