Could Soledad O’Brien Be Headed Out The Door At CNN?

Could Soledad O'Brien Be Headed Out The Door At CNN?

You do realize what this means, don't you?

It means NO MORE of those "let's-explain-to-white-people-how really-wierd-and-f____d-up-black-people-are" Black in America specials. HURRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

But the New York Post reports today on something that actually has been rumbling for the past few weeks, since former NBC programming chief Jeff Zucker took over as head of CNN a few months ago, but not verified – that Soledad O'Brien could very likely be on her way out at CNN.

Reportedly O'Brien has been promised a primetime slot on the network, which now likely not to happen, considering that Zucker very badly wants that slot for former Today Show co-host Ann Curry, once she can work out a deal to get out of her existing contract with NBC.

Zucker also wants to establish a new morning show with current CNN on-air talent Erin Burnett and Chris Cuomo who recently jumped ship at ABC for CNN.

All this means is that O'Brien is left out on the lurch and sees the handwriting on the wall that her time at CNN is pretty much coming to an end.

However O'Brien is saying that speculation about her future at the network are premature: “Listen, I have been doing this gig for a while. People go crazy with speculation every time there’s a shift in leadership. I can’t comment on every rumor, but so far I’ve read reports on me, Anderson Cooper, Piers Morgan, Curry and Erin Burnett, and all that’s clear to me is that somebody’s busy dialing (the N.Y. Post)."

Hey, anything that get CNN to stop doing those Black in America specials is all right with me

This exchange is comical. Carey Carey is CLEARLY under the impression that "America" belongs to the "So Called White Race". So lets be clear here as someone who's family is part of a tribe that is federally recognized this thought process is IRONIC to say the least. Unlike what most "Whites" believe and what Hollywood depicts "Native Americans" are the first Blacks to inhabit this country. Don't believe me take a look at pictures of "Sitting Bull or Crazy Horse" they are Black. The question that should be asked is why would someone like CareyCarey or anyone like him would participate in a discussion about Black people given their clear ignorance. It is because deep down inside you really desire to be a Black person. And please don't begin to attack our contributions to this society it is clear from history that EVERY thing that is above your races level of understanding is destroyed. Don't believe me look at Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Haiti. And please lets not mention the system of slavery. American history shows that Blacks did not come here as slaves but as indentured individuals, as did the majority of this country's first Whites and don't get me started on Christopher Colombus. It also shows that most "Whites" were TOO poor to own slaves in fact they were POORER than slaves and had no value. Please do not misunderstand me, your jealousy and envy is understood I mean if the shoe were on the other foot I might be inclined to feel the same. However, in the future NO one will know your level of ignorance if you keep your mouth closed.

Personally, it bugs me how Ms. O'Brien seems intent on convincing us how "positive" she is. I'm not casting any dispersion upon her light skin, or her white husband and biracial children. I'm just saying her intent oftentimes seems contrived, as does the tone of those somewhat unwatchable "Black In America" specials. I'd rather hear Tyler Perry talk about how much he loves the ladies. Actually, scratch that, no I wouldn't.

I'll take Black in America over Real Housewives, Basketball Wives, and Love and Hip Hop any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Seriously do not understand the hang up with BA.

What is the beef with Soledad…cause she talk about black people dirty undies on television, that why AIDS gonna devour every black community in America cause we don't talk.

Danny

It is all over the media looks like Soledad O Brien got canned by CNN!

deecreative

but wait!? The NY post, reported this!? SMH…next, haven't heard anything serious about this.

If they replace Soledad with Erin Burnett that would be WACK!!! Soledad's morning show is good! I have been a fan of her's since she was on MSNBC. She's a good journalist, if this is the case, I say Soledad make a move with HBO or for real, go back to MSNBC. I don't know why CNN is trying to be more conservative, they are the only station that tries to play the 'middle ground' and yes! T.J. Holmes should have never left CNN. I wouldn't have! Not for BET to start a news program BET clearly wasn't interested in.

Looks like I have to watch the rest of the Black in America specials because I never thought the first one was bad in any way. Maybe i need to rewatch that one too.

It's time for her to go. Even as a liberal I found myself disgusted at the way she disrespected each and every one of her Republican guests.

Interestingly enough, a local radio station reported about 3 weeks ago that she was out, as if the decision was a sure thing. It has been rumored that she publicly heralded Zucker's hiring, and then he turned around and fired her. The upside for her is that it has been reported that no matter what happens, CNN is obligated to pay out her contract. I like her, so I wish her well in her future endeavors, whether they are carried out at CNN or in another forum.

jeni

After going from NBC to CNN, she's going to have to do something completely out of the box to stay relevant…maybe some hard-hitting OWN specials while Lisa Ling's on maternity leave, or HBO docs.

Zaidi B

Bring back T.J. It's obvious his talents are being wasted at BET.

incrediblejeff

I clicked on this knowing exactly what it was going to say,and I'm still dying laughing.

Soledad O'Brien is a scourge on modern journalism. She is basically a female, liberal Giraldo Rivera who never leaves the studio except to sit down somewhere else (most dreadfully, as you've noted above, while attempting to boil down "black culture" for whomever white geriatric she expects to be watching CNN at any given time). Give me Erin Burnett any day — seriously the only thing in the world that can keep me from watching 'Jeopardy'.

Hate to be that guy, but Soledad's voice also annoys the hell out of me.

whats wrong with black in America specials

CareyCarey

"It means NO MORE of those "let's-explain-to-white-people-how really-wierd-and-f___d-up-black-people-are" Black in America specials. HURRAY!"

HELLO!!! My exact sentiments. I absolutely HATE those goddamn shows. There's nothing to be gained from those "look-how-black-I am" monkey suit shows.

That woman is one of the best reporters on TV period. She always speaks the truth to power. I hope she keeps her job.

sergio

"…she also shut down conservatives/Republicans in leading up to the 2012 elections when they came at her with BS/ignorance/stupidity" Hey anyone can do that and they do it all the time on MSNBC like Martin Bashir, Al Sharpton, Lawrence O'Donnell or Rachel Maddows

AJ

Sergio, she may have hosted those specials where as you say she said let's show white people how "messed up" black people are but she also shut down conservatives/Republicans in leading up to the 2012 elections when they came at her with BS/ignorance/stupidity, and it's possible the race specials were misguided, but we still need to talk about race–especially in this supposed "post race era." And Sergio, come up with some ideas of what other person of color should get an on air job at CNN.
