We all know by now about the prolific Nigerian film industry – better known as Nollywood – which has definitely gotten its fair share of world wide attention, some of it criticism.
But just how accurately do Nollywood films reflect African life and culture? That’s a question that the new documentary by filmmaker Ihuoma Mambo Atanga answers. Titled, True Story Nollywood, the film aims to “explore the authenticity of the African narrative in Nollywood.”
The organization New York Women in Film and Television will host a screening of the documentary, in New York City, on Tuesday Feb 26, at the Anthology Film Archives, at 7PM, during the Archive’s Anecdotes of a Nigeria series.
