LA Times Wonders If Beyoncé’s Super Bowl Halftime Show Was An Audition For ‘Wonder Woman’

LA Times Wonders If Beyoncé's Super Bowl Halftime Show Was An Audition For 'Wonder Woman'

I say, probably not…

Some of you may remember Beyoncé’s 2008 admission to the LA Times’ Hero Complex, in which she revealed that, not only would she love to play Wonder Woman on screen, but she had, in fact, met with DC Comics reps and Warner Bros to discuss starring in one of their then upcoming projects.

“I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right?” Beyoncé says that she has met with representatives of DC Comics and Warner Bros. to express her interest in a major role in one of the many comic-book adaptations now in the pipeline following the massive success of “The Dark Knight,” “Iron Man” and the “Spider-Man” and “X-Men” franchises.

Again, that was in 2008. Obviously, whatever came of her meetings with DC Comics and Warner Bros. hasn’t, thus far, resulted in anything that’s happened publicly. Although, I certainly wasn’t there, so I have no idea what exactly was discussed or planned.

Skip ahead to last night’s Super Bowl halftime performance, which wowed many, and disappointed others, if my Twitter and Facebook newsfeeds were any indication. But that’s Beyoncé; she’s a polarizing public figure. You either love her, or you love to hate her.

While some were busy wondering whether the Roc-A-Fella triangular symbol she made with her hands during her performance, as well as the entire performance itself, was all some sort of Illuminati thing (those conspiracy theories just won’t go away, will they?), the LA Times was instead wondering whether her performance, along with all the moves and gestures she made, were all a tryout for the Wonder Woman film she expressed interest in over 4 years ago.

Needless to say, I’m not sold on either – the Illuminati thing, nor that it was an audition for Wonder Woman.

But maybe they have some inside info that I don’t, and, some time this week, it’ll be announced that  Beyoncé is indeed attached to a Wonder Woman film.

It did get me thinking further though… if not Wonder Woman, since she clearly wants to play a super hero on screen, and did approach DC Comics and the WB about the possibility, what super hero character do you think she’d be perfect for… if any?

She needs a acting coach, her ego may overshadowed the character , and she going have to read lot dc comics or watch justice league unlimited, because it takes a lot of dedication to portray the Wonder Woman, this is not like singing hip hop or sponsoring cosmetics. She really have to stay the character and lots of imagination. She have the legs, but she needs get a little more inside. That why Henry Cavill landed the role as man of steel Superman.

Why does she have to be diana prince. She could be some one who takes diana place . That is not that far fetch. Wonder Woman is a beautiful woman . So is beyonce . Maybe one of the most beautiful woman in the world . With Wonder Woman on screen in limbo why not give beyonce a shot. With a good script and origin story on how she got to be the princess of power it could work

Since when did superhero movies require great acting. No superheroes even getting nominated. The bad guys are usually the better actors. Beyonce is a big star and big draw. To me that is the only thing that should matter make the role and movie as big as possible. Movies are rarely ever that good and action hardly ever are. I would rather see her play it than any actress over 40 who some on this site always suggest for roles. Men just have to look the part, the only way a women can look the part is if she already has a major fan base. Name a relatively unknown minority woman and many people will tell you why she isn't badder than Beyonce. Then some will ask in what way. She is top 3 of all female stars in any industry.

Gosh no! Just leave it alone, Beyonce…
I've always seen perhaps Gina Torres as Wonder Woman.

Beyonce is a much better singer than actress. J-Lo is a much better actress than singer. Someday, it'll all work out the way its supposed to.

So not happening.

She can be Cheetah.

She needs acting lessons before she step up that high. Stick to your mediocre music style.

Wonder Woman had a Black sister named Nubia at one point in the comics, she could play her..

The protests and hate mail campaigns are being organized by the white racist geek lobby as we speak.

Hmmm. I'm not exactly sure which comic character Beyonce would be a no-brainer to play although I'm sure some would say Storm.

She would be a bad choice for Wonder Woman btw. I hate to unleash my inner geek but Wonder Woman, Diana Troy, was created/born in the image of the ancient Greeks (in theory at least since I'm assuming not too many of those Greeks had blue eyes). You could give a better justification for casting a black Superman (since Kal El comes from the fictional planet of Krypton) than you can for casting a black woman as a character who is supposed to look like a Greek amazon. The world no more needs a black Wonder Woman than it does a black James Bond imo. I think Beyonce may ahve missed out on an opportunity with Uhura although she isn't a comic book character.

By the way with all of these male superhero characters dominating the screen the lone female superhero who may have a chance at being a franchise character is Wonder Woman. It would be hypocritical of Hollywood to suddenly get "progressive" by considering a woman of color to play the lone superheroine icon, when that same Hollywood would never consider a man of color to play one of the two dozen iconic white superheroes that they are interested in making films about or rebooting.

LMAO. No, LA Times, that was just Beyonce doing what she always does: rocking the fuck out. Beyonce is nowhere near an actor, so she's never going to be Wonder Woman; maybe a fellow Amazonian at best. How about Attack of the 50 Foot Woman? Does that role require much dialogue or just a lot of sexy stomping around?

E Forde

I would think if Bey Bey was ever to play a comic book character she'd be a lock for Barbarella.

She'd be great at playing Princess Snooze A Lot cause she does the same thing over and over and is not very interesting anymore and because she refuses to remove herself from CHRONIC oversaturation. That's a DC comic character isn't it? smh
