Fresh off its Sundance premiere last month, Hannah Fidell's feature debut "A Teacher" has been picked up by Oscilloscope Laboratories for North American distribution. The film next plays at the upcoming SXSW Film Festival (March 8-16) in the Festival Favorites category. Oscilloscope plans a theatrical, video-on-demand and digital release for later this year.
In "A Teacher," Lindsay Burdge plays an attractive suburban Texas high school teacher engaged in a heated affair with a male student (Will Brittain). The subject matter alone attracted a lot of attention prior to the film's premiere, and following its unveiling Burdge emerged as one of the breakouts of the festival with a performance The Hollywood Reporter praised as "commandingly internalized."
"We’re so thrilled to be joining the Oscilloscope family," Fidell said in a statement. "Their films represent everything we love about cinema and we are honored 'A Teacher' has found such an ideal home."
The deal was negotiated by David Laub and Dan Berger for Oscilloscope with ICM Partners on behalf of the filmmakers.
