The Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival (a.k.a. POWFest) announces highlights from its upcoming event, running March 7-10. The festival is celebrating its 6th year, and received a record number of submissions from women filmmakers across the world to compile almost 100 films (shorts, docs and features) that will play in themed programs — Relationships, Mature Themes, Animation & Experimental, Mothers & Fathers, and Youth Created. This year's "female pioneer" and Guest of Honor is director Penelope Spheeris, whose films "Dudes," "Suburbia" and "Decline of Western Civilization III" will screen on March 9.
The festival will open with Jackie Weissman's "Rock N Roll Mamas," while International Women's Day (March 8) will feature POW's the traveling shorts showcase Lunafest, as well as "From Zimbabwe to Sante Fe" and "Gabby's Wish." Other highlights from the weekend include "Rumblestrips," "We Women Warriors," "Breakfast with Curtis" (nominated for the John Cassavettes Indie Spirit award), and several shorts programs. All films will screen at the Hollywood Theatre.
