Watch: Annapurna Pictures Sizzle Reel Celebrates 'The Master,' 'Zero Dark Thirty,' 'Lawless' & More

With the Oscars over, it looks like we are finally ready to stop talking about last year’s movies and keep our focus entirely on this year’s crop of films. Well, most of us are ready to do that. Annapurna Pictures has posted a nifty little sizzle reel on their site showcasing the collection of challenging adult dramas that they’ve released and/or have been involved with over the past year. This includes clips from “Lawless,” “The Master,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Killing Them Softly,” “Spring Breakers” (premiered in Venice last summer) and “The Grandmaster” (premiered in Berlin a few weeks ago), with the latter two set to be released theatrically this year. The reel is a must watch for fans of any or all of these films.

It’s hard not to love, or at least admire, Annapurna head Megan Ellison who was instrumental in getting those six films made. In spite of the fact that “Zero Dark Thirty” was really the only financially successful one of the bunch, the sizzle reel suggests that there is a lot to be proud of with the work Annapurna has done thus far. They look to keep plowing ahead this year, producing films by Spike Jonze (“Her”), Bennett Miller (“Foxcatcher”), and David O. Russell (the untitled Abscam film starring Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence and more). It will be interesting to see how their work will continue to affect the film industry.

Be sure to check out the reel below. Here’s to many more great films and sizzle reels from the young production company in the years to come.

Hope she keeps going too, but hard to know what she brings to these films other than hard ca$h..everything Annapurna makes (other than Zero Dark) feels like it's trying too hard and needs more guidance. And that Abscam script has been in-the-making for seven years. How do the people in the know get her to finance this stuff (do they appeal to ego and say it's too smart for everyone else?!).

I just hope the lack of recognition for her films at the Oscars won't dissuade her from continuing to make these interesting and thought provoking films. It's a shame it's such a unique notion in the industry nowadays to give talented filmmakers creative freedom and the budget to bring their visions to reality.

Grandmaster

You just have to admire Megan for her work,it's hard to belive how much she has done in just a single year. She will defentley produce a lot great movies in the next couple years.
