Why Academy Award-nominee Morgan Spurlock directed the One Direction 3D movie, "1D3D," we don't know. Maybe it's because the "Super Size Me" helmer is one of the few doc filmmakers the UK boy band's fan base is aware of (ask any thirteen year old girl to name another doc director and you probably won't have much luck). Or maybe Spurlock is just looking to take a break from the humorously daring endeavors he's become known for and do something milder.
Regardless, the English-Irish boy band sensation that came from Simon Cowell's "The X Factor" and became the first UK group to have their first album, "Up All Night," debut at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, is now coming at you in full 3D. The trailer tells us that this won't be the average spectacle-filled, gimmicky 3D concert film, but instead an adoring documentary piece that gives a slightly more intimate look at the five boys that blanket the walls of every teenage girls' bedroom. Maybe Spurlock's passionate eye was a good choice for this band documentary-3D concert film hybrid.
Sony releases "1D3D" wide on August 30th.
