Watch: This Is What The Oscar Tribute Should've Been; Film Student Celebrates 50 Years Of Bond In 4 Minutes

We’ve already run down our highlights and low points from Sunday night’s Oscar ceremonies, but one thing we failed to mention was what a colossal missed opportunity the tribute to 50 years of Bond was. Highly publicized before the broadcast, the segment flopped, presenting a poorly cobbled-together montage overlaid with rather gaudy and cliche graphics, that failed to capture the journey the character has taken over five decades and what has made 007 timeless. Well, leave it to a 19-year-old film student from the Netherlands to show the Academy how its done.

Kees van Dijkhuizen Jr. has put together a four-minute tribute to the James Bond franchise, culling a tasteful selection of clips over the run of films, capturing the action, drama and romance all while ending on a note that promises much more to come. It’s all overlaid by Adele‘s Oscar-winning “Skyfall,” and it’s the kind of straightforward but well-executed approach the Oscars totally dropped the ball on. So if you want to see Bond done right, wash the taste out of your mouth from whatever that was on Sunday and watch below. [Live For Films]

Outstanding work by someone whoclearly loves the James Bond franchise. It certainly eclipsed the slapped together montage served up at the Academy Awards. The producers treated the segment like it was a reason to have Adele sing instead of honoring one of the longest running and most beloved movie franchises in history. That the Academy was more interested in recycling "Glee" fodder than acknowledging a true cinematic landmark tells you all you need to know about The Oscars.

Wow. Kees takes the personal approach. What Bond's dedication is all about. The soul of Bond. Moving. Amazing job. Take a look at Kees' other montages. They're simply beautiful.

While I didn't think much of the Academy tribute to 007, I kept thinking "this montage is using up too many clips they won't have any for the Bond tribute" not realizing that was the Bond tribute, your student's montage manages to miss all the humor and swinging sexiness of Bond films which made them so popular and distinguished them from the "kill and blow-em ups" that have since come and gone.

Dr Harford

wow, you guys are right, this is way better thatn the shitty tribute by the academy. Kudos to the guy that did it.

Give this man the keys to a future Bond. Deftly done. Love how we cut to skiers schussing across an Alpine ridge line the moment the strings kick in on Adele's Skyfall theme.

Agreed, this is way better than the Academy's tribute.

I read that the original plan was to get all the Bonds together for a reunion onstage. It fell apart after one or two of the Bonds refused, one of them said to be Connery.

You're right, this is way better than what the Academy peddled out on Sunday. These are greatly edited videos too, we might see this kid in the future for sure.
