On the heels of the great success of its simultaneous one-night engagements in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Washington DC, Seattle, Chicago, and Houston 2 days ago, as well as in celebration of today’s theatrical debut of the film, AFFRM’s new multi-platform label ARRAY has shared the first 7-minutes of Storm Saulter’s acclaimed Better Mus’ Come, exclusively with Shadow and Act, for our readers.
Passion, politics and poverty collide as this love story unfolds against
a backdrop of political turmoil in 1970’s Jamaica, as rival gangs
enlisted by warring political factions disrupt the democratic process,
leading to bloodshed in the streets. Better Mus’ Come begins in 1977 and ends the in the first couple days of 1978 during the Green Bay Massacre,
and follows Ricky, a gang leader and political pawn, as he struggles to
navigate the hardships of life in Kingston, and to define a better way
of life for his young son.
The film, AFFRM’s first pick-up of 2013, opens today in NYC at the AMC Empire 25 in Times Square, and in Los Angeles at the Downtown Independent. Visit http://www.affrm.com/better-mus-come/ for showtimes, or check your local listings.
