Jude Law Is On Team Ramsay, Quits ‘Jane Got A Gun’

Jude Law Is On Team Ramsay, Quits 'Jane Got A Gun'

So, if somehow you’ve been away for the past 24 hours, here’s what’s been going on: Lynne Ramsay bailed on the western “Jane Got A Gunon the first day of production yesterday, only to be replaced by “Warrior” helmer Gavin O’Connor this morning, with plans to start shooting tomorrow. Well, they’ll have to scrap those plans as the project has lost another major talent.

Deadline reports that Jude Law has exited the picture, “because he signed on to work with Ramsay.” Sorry, Gavin. While that may be the case, we can also imagine that the actor — who joined last week to help firm up the cast after Michael Fassbender left after supposedly clashing with Ramsay — probably didn’t like what we can only imagine is pure chaos around the production at the moment. There’s no word on who will replace him — he had the key role of the villain in the movie — but this is undoubtedly a major blow.

And yet through all of this, there’s still no word from Ramsay, though that too has its own twists and turns. Huffington Post reached out to her manager Jessica Steindorff, and learned that she’s actually the daughter of the film’s producer, Scott Steindorff. Awkward. But she knows firmly which camp she’s in. “My father Scott Steindorff prevails under extreme amounts of stress and the show will go on,” she said. “Sorry, but in this town it’s family first.” In other words, she’s no longer repping Ramsay.

Clearly, the start date tomorrow is off the table and it’s unclear if the movie will survive this latest blow. Much more to come, we’re sure.

"Sorry, but in this town it's family first." Hmm, in that town there also seems to be a gaudy idea of grabbing hold of a hot director and using them to polish turds. Thank god one director in 'this town' still has some integrity. I was never eager to see JGG, it always rang hollow, especially for a director of Ramsey's depth, I'm now looking forward to seeing her take on a project worth believing in.

The new rumors are that Ramsay's budget was significantly slashed ($9 million) when Fassbender left (due to 'Frank' running long, not the false "falling out"), she didn't want Jude Law, and her heads of department Tim Grimes and Darius Khondji are both leaving as well.

Ratcatcher[s] abandoning a sinking ship….

From the O'Connor announcement it didn't sound like they seriously hoped to start shooting tomorrow anymore, there's no way they can expect a decent vision from a complete gun-for-hire given no time to prepare his own treatment of the material. Maybe Fassbender will come back now with a more agreeable shotcaller haha.

Maybe Jason Clarke can fit it in before Apes sequel. He is very hot right now.

"Team Ramsay" sounds like just a poor excuse. He's jumping off a sinking ship. But who can blame him?

I'm sure they can film around him until they find a replacement, assuming they can and depending on the size of the role.

Right on, Jude! You know, I'm in the camp that's saying regardless of what happened, Ramsay's conduct is less than professional… but

She's the fucking shit and deserves the same as any male director would. Can't wait to rewatch 'Ratcatcher' tonight. #TeamRamsay

This is epic.

I think we need a movie about this movie

Law does not really do anything for me, he is pretty dull in most movies anyway. If they can salvage this, whoever replaces him will be a better fit to play the villian I'm sure.

Portman should just put a call out to all the Malick Men who dropped by set on a whim: Benicio Del Toro, Wes Bentley, Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbend… oh. Well, Val Kilmer will show up for anything day of, and he lives in New Mexico!

Jacues DeMolay

Holy shit, what the FUCK is going on with this movie?! This would be absolutely hilarious if it weren't so sad. I can't wait until the other ball drops, and we find out what the real story is… that is, IF we ever find out…

This is insane. I feel bad for the crew. Seems like the above the line egos are making everyone twist in the New Mexico wind, and they probably had to turn down jobs to take this one. I hope it still gets made. C'mon Portman give one of the Malick actors who were able to just drop by anytime they wanted a call!
