Trailer: CodeBlack-Produced 'Why We Laugh: Funny Women' (Whoopi Goldberg, Kim Wayans, Others)

Narrated by Joan Rivers, the film premiered last night, Thursday, March 21 at 8/7c, on Showtime. If you missed it, you’ll be glad to know that it’ll next air tomorrow (or is it tonight), Saturday, March 23, at 12 am ET/PT on SHO 2. It’s also available on Showtime Anytime (which is a free service, if you’re already a Showtime subscriber).
The film sheds light on the legacy of the female comedian and the dedication, courage and passion required to be successful in the male-dominated stand-up comedy business.

Nearly 30 of the industry’s top funny women participated in the project, sharing personal perspectives and experiences including familiar names like Whoopi GoldbergKym Whitley, Kim Wayans, Aisha Tyler, Sheryl Underwood, and many others of all skin colors.

Why We Laugh: Funny Women follows in the path of the critically acclaimed 2009 Sundance Film Festival documentary, Why We Laugh: Black Comedians on Black Comedy, which was co-written and produced by Codeblack Films’ Quincy Newell. Newell produced Funny Women along with Sheila Ducksworth, while Jeff Clanagan and Joan Rivers serve as Executive Producers.

A trailer exists, which I’m just learning about, and is embedded below.

I watched the first 30 minutes and I really liked it. There were a few glaring omissions though… No Wanda Sykes, Kim Coles, Monique, and at 30 minutes in I had yet to see Kym Whitley. Of course they couldn't include everybody, but hummmmm?

However, overall good doc so far.
