D'Angelo Barksdale Is Reportedly Joining 'Walking Dead' Cast As Series Regular

I’d file this one under unconfirmed for now. Although International Digital Times is a reputable magazine…

International Digital Times is reporting exclusively that Lawrence Gilliard Jr. (likely best known for his role as  for 18 episodes of The Wire, although he’s done a lot more) is in talks to join season 4 of AMC’s hit zombie drama series The Walking Dead, in a new series regular role.
Of course the question is what role exactly could that be? And are producers of the series really going to have a 4 black series regulars on the show at one time?
Recall that, just a couple of weeks ago, it was announced that Chad Coleman (who plays Tyreese, and who’s also a former cast member of The Wire) and Sonequa Martin-Green (who plays Sasha) had been promoted to series regulars in the hit zombie series, which returns in October.

And there’s also Danai Gurira as Michonne, who’s slowly coming into her own, as the actress instructed us in a video interview posted in this site last week.

Earlier this month, it was reported that a casting call for a new series regular role for a character named Roy Stark, was issued. The character was described as a former army medic who is deeply haunted by his past. As a result, he’s a bit of a loner, although he maintains a charming/self-deprecating/confident public face.

Could Gilliard be Roy Stark?

Stay tuned…

And are producers of the series really going to have a 4 black series regulars on the show at one time? – WOW that's racist

OmegaDR

First Cutty and now D'Angelo. The Wire character they should REALLY add is OMAR, with his Shotgun!!!

Miles Ellison

The only way they get away with having this many black characters and keeping their large audience is by underwriting and under developing them. Like they've been doing. The second any of these characters is given dimension and becomes something other than a stereotype, their audience will disappear faster than doughnuts at a cop convention.

Raphael

They are in Georgia, I'm sure there are plenty of black people there.

JJ

For anyone who wants to make the argument about Black character's on The Walking Dead, there are more Black zombies on the show than one can count. So there…. <—sarcasm

Kevin

I am not racist but And are producers of the series really going to have a 4 black series regulars on the show at one time?

How stupid can you be??

brian p

yeah way to perpetuate stereotypes indiewire. wtf.

Brian

Is this article suggesting that the number of black regulars should be subject to a limitation?

Donnie Leapheart

So that must mean Chad Coleman's character Tyrese is a dead man… #NoMoreThanOneBlackManOnThisShow
