Described as a portrait of a city simultaneously-rated as a top 5 destination as well as a top 5 most dangerous city in the USA, when, once a month, those two realities meet…
The documentary project comes from a team made up of N’jeri Eaton, Mario Furloni and Kristina Motwani, and is titled First Friday.
In the same year, Oakland was rated one of the top five destinations in the world and one of the top five most dangerous cities in the country. On February 1st, 2013 those two realities met with the fatal shooting of a teenager during First Friday, a monthly arts festival that has become the symbol of the city’s economic and cultural revival. FIRST FRIDAY follows a diverse group of residents as they work to preserve the event that represents a city’s attempt to transform itself.
I’ll say no more and just direct you to the pitch video which follows below and explains all you need to know, including the Kickstarter campaign the filmmakers launched earlier this month, which ends in 8 days. The campaign goal is $15,000, and with just over a week left, they’ve raised almost $13,000. So they just need a tale-end push to get them the remaining $2,226 or so (as of this post), and maybe even blow past that amount.
If you’d like to contribute to the campaign, click HERE (or within the widget below) to go to the project’s Kickstarter page, and chip in.
